	amongst us.... What is a Hill's hoist? What is a milk bar?,What are tailor mades?, and in a pub what is a DB? more to come I'm sure....

	tailor mades are cigarettes made in a factory, as opposed to rollies, which you roll yourself. And then there's the whacky, which you know, is the best kind. I like to keep a surplus of all three on hand. Are you reading one those books with pages, that you can hold in your hands?

	''Tailor mades'' also referred to cigarettes made with a little inexpensive machine put out by the Bugler tobacco company during the depression of 1929-36. They also sold the cigarette papers. The can of tobacco cost 10 cents and the papers wer a nickel. They did a pretty good job and for about half the price. I have heard of a Hill's hoist referring to the lift used to transport skiers to the top of the slope. I suppose it could be applied to any number of things. Okay, how about pick-up-sticks, a Jew's harp, a slop jar, a thunder mug, or a meter jumper? Have you ever heard of a window box used as a refrigerator?

	... but just over the ditch from 'em, so can answer a couple for you Salo ... the Hills Hoist is an Ozzie invention, nothing to do with ski lifts, but is an ingenious round thing in your backyard that you dry your clothes on. A milk bar is just that, a place to buy your milk and your bread and these days all kinds of assorted extras. When I was a kid we bought our lollies there too, loose ones in brown paper bags .. *sigh .. No idea what a DB is in a pub (unless its a deadbeat), but I'm pretty sure MrBlaat can answer that one for you (in fact I'd stake my life on it!). ♥

	thanks for the info... ahhhh, we used to have ''Hill's hoists'' too, tho we didn't call them that. Ours were a bit different,they didn't go up and down jes' round and round. I think you're right re: Mr. BlaaT knowing his way round a pub...perhaps he'll answer. :D

	I think a DB might be drambuie, or drambuie mixed with beer or something. 	stands for Dominion Breweries, one of the two largest breweries in the country, the other being Lion Nathan. In them old days dairy's used to be called milk bars but somewhere along the line that changed but have similar memories as Rosi. As far as the Hill's Hoist being Australian......they will claim ownership of anything that is remotely good and even some stuff that is not remotely good like Russel Crowe.
