økonomiyaki? Betelgeuse, 11 Apr 2007 21:22
yaki's got something to do with meaning it's cooked, but is the okonomi bit from some sort of European language origin and has it to do with economy, as in you shove a load of leftovers together and bung them in a pancake? I just saw a sign saying økonomikontor in the lobby here in Hammerfest. There were no pancakes, though. I know I could probably google an answer, but I can't be arsed and, besides, thought one of the resident Japanese pancake-aficionados here would know... Please tell me!

To Seltaeb.
Okonomiyaki Seltaeb, 11 Apr 2007 22:49
roughly means ''pancakes any way you want them.'' Or, at least that's what I was told.

To Betelgeuse.
Aha... it would be interesting to know Betelgeuse, 11 Apr 2007 23:47
if that's a literal translation of okonomiyaki as well as what they are...

And there is the sad tale of dear little Aurora. And some lovely montages of Norwegian architecture reminiscent of that online world where you arrive in a space-ship and have to rescue your dog (if memory serves me correct)

the apostrophe is well done. i may start using this one too, but i tend to refuse to think of the shifting.. all in all in english it is not of a big use, i think. i have read steppenwolf and siddharta! these are great books. as you mentioned: the ''lyric-style'' of hesse is a bit confusing at first; seems sometimes missplaced to me as well. but never the less i enjoyed reading them very much. i will also have to work them out for my final exam in german! further: worlds end from t.c. boyle, 1984 from orwell, clockwork orange from ..(i don't remember), dark side of the moon from martin suter. i may will even enjoy it. ps: the picture you have added: are those seriously ment to be somekind of symbols to let the pupils know how they did? the maja bee has always the same face! i am dissapointed, a bit.
